Paul O'Callaghan

Paul began his martial arts career at the age of 11 by training in Shotokan Karate. After an injury forced him to stop Karate he went on to study Ju Jitsu under Tony Martin Sensei in the WJJF. By the time he had reached 18 he had obtained his first degree black belt.

After a few years training in Ju Jitsu Paul attended a seminar in Kaze Arashi Ryu Aiki Ju Jutsu in Chester. The seminar was taught by Henri Robert Vilaire Sensei and Paul admits to having been ‘blown away’ by the art’s techniques, which were powerful and effective but seemed to be applied with very little effort. From this time Paul was ‘hooked’. He started training at the Chester club and went for further instruction to the Liverpool dojo of Ian Griffiths Sensei. He also started making regular trips to Rossendale for advanced training with Kirby Watson Sensei.

Paul now holds the title of ‘Menkyo’ (Licensed Teacher) in Kaze Arashi Ryu Aiki Ju Jutsu and has been Chief Instructor of the United Kingdom Kaze Arashi Ryu since 2009. He also holds a 2nd degree black belt in Kyudo and, in addition to his Kaze Arashi Ryu responsibilities, currently practises Chen Tai Chi and Qigong.
